Such a busy summer and perfect gardening weather, just enough rain without watering the ground
but not enough to tempt the slugs!
It was great to have at last a fine evening for the “Indian Summer” picnic hosted by Anna and Peter in their delightful country garden in Kings Lane as well as being entertained by the ducklings, donkeys and chickens. We really appreciate their hard work preparing for the event.
The next event will be the AGM and Produce Show on Tuesday September 7that 7.30pm in Snitterfield Village Hall. Exhibits must be staged between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Judging will take place while the AGM takes place followed by the show and presentation of prizes. I do hope members will make a grand effort to participate as more classes have be
en added to the schedule. A trowel is presented to the child with the most innovative entry.
Eventually, I have visited Rousham gardens near to Banbury, open daily (all year) 10am-4.30pm, landscaped by William Kent. It is quite splendid, natural and literally simply beautiful. Another garden worth visiting is Croome landscaped by Capability Brown, a National Trust property quite near to Pershore. Recently I visited John Massey’s spectacular garden at Ashwood Lower Lane, Kingswinford. The next open day is Sunday September 12th(NGS scheme) and Saturday 25th,entrance £4(for charity).
Garden Club’s gardening year starts with the AGM. We can look forward to a superb programme, Keith Wiley (the Landscape Man), Val Bourne, Timothy Walker, Willow Weaving (workshops as well), James Bolton just for starters. The annual subscription is low, giving fantastic value and we will be delighted to welcome you to join if not a member already. Meetings are the first Tuesday of the month at 8pm (except the AGM) in the village Hall.
